February 2021: The Dawn Wall
El Capital, or 'El Cap' is an iconic 3,000ft rock formation in California's Yosemite Valley. El Capitan's vertical granite has always presented a challenge for climbers; you can watch 'Free Solo' to find out more about this. El Cap's South-Eastern face, known as The Dawn Wall (it's where the sun hits the rock face in the morning), is considered to be one of the most challenging climbs in the world.
This documentary isn't just a film two climbers setting out to tackle The Dawn Wall. It also explores the stories of Tommy and Kevin. As a young climber on an expedition in Kyrgyzstan, Tommy and his small group of climbing friends are taken hostage. In a bid to escape, Tommy pushes one of their captors off a cliff to almost certain death. Several years later, Tommy accidentally cuts off his finger with a saw, and is told his climbing career is over.
This 19 day expedition is worth a watch. Watch the trailer below, and find the full film on Netflix.
