WILD CAMPING FOR BEGINNERS

Day One

Arrive at the beautifully located Patterdale Hotel for lunch together as a group. After lunch, we'll show you how to pack your rucksack efficiently with the brand new camping gear that you'll receive as part of the event. We hike for approximately 2.5 hours up into the hills to a lakeside spot - a wonderful backdrop to be shown how to use your new camping equipment. We'll show you how to pitch your tent, cook our evening meals on the new stoves, watch the sunset, check out the amazing stars (we often see the milky way) and when it's time to retire you can use your new headtorch to find your way into your cosy sleeping bag - all provided as part of your camping bundle.

Day Two Congratulations on your first night wild camping! You should wake up feeling refreshed and revitalised after all that clean air and gear to keep you warm and cosy! After breakfast we'll pack up and enjoy a beautiful morning walk through the spectacular Lake District scenery to our second camp at a second stunning waterside location. You can cool off with a dip followed by an afternoon walk without the rucksacks, returning to camp for a well deserved meal. As the sun starts to set, we usually see red deer from this camp, making this location even more magical.

Day Three

We descend back into the valley for a flat walk back to a pub on the lake for some delicious food by the lake. We typically finish around 2pm, giving you plenty of time to travel home for a well-earned, shower, pizza, and movie at home on the sofa!

We practice the 'Leave no Trace' principles and give you hints and tips for a better camping experience over the course of the weekend. Throughout the weekend there is an option to practice some basic map reading and navigation skills, and for those that wish to join.

We meet at the Riverside Bar in Patterdale.

Driving – If you are driving, the postcode is CA11 0NN.

Train - Oxenholme Lake District Station is the closest which is 2.5 hours from London Euston (direct), 2 hours from Birmingham (direct), 2 hours from Glasgow or Edinburgh (direct) and 1 hour from Manchester (direct). From there you could book a taxi or someone in your group may be able to give you a lift. There are also direct buses from Penrith (on the same train line) to Patterdale where the event starts.

You will need to bring some basic food with you. We will give you more details and suggestions nearer the time but they are broadly; fruit, snacks, sandwiches and evening meals of rice or pasta.

Guests book onto Adventure Solos events by themselves, and arrive to enjoy a fun, friendly and social event. We start the event with food and a chat together. The event is a great way to try new things and make new friends. This is also facilitated by an Adventure Solos host who will be present throughout the event and helps to ensure everyone is having a good time.

You will be provided with all the essential camping equipment required for this trip for you to keep (assuming you book the option with gear including). You will need to bring sensible outdoor clothing - we will give you more information on this before the event but broadly it includes some sturdy footwear such as hiking boots, a waterproof jacket and a 65-75 litre backpack.

You do not need prior camping experience; that's what this event is all about.

If you are unfit, you may like to join us for a walk or two in the weeks prior to the event.
