FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
The majority of our guests book on the the event by themselves. Every Adventure Solos event has a host, who helps to create a fun social atmosphere. They also create a WhatsApp group that all guests are invited to join prior to the event starting. Upon arrival the host will meet you and introduce you to other guests. We play outdoors together during the day and eat as a group in the evenings. By the end of the event we would expect you to have met lots of new people and made lots of new friends. The idea is 'Book on by yourself. Make new friends. Enjoy group adventures'. Many people book for the adventures, and come back for the friendships!
Anyone who is kind, fun and friendly is welcome to join.
People join for a variety of reasons - some of the ones we most often are:
they are looking to have new experiences;
they are looking to make new friends / expand their social circle;
they have a partner who isn't into in the outdoors;
their life circumstance may have changed and they are looking to start living again (eg post-covid, recent separation etc);
they have more time on their hands as their children are older and more independent.
The majority of our guests are in their 30s, 40s and 50s. However this can vary slightly, and sometimes we get people that are a little younger or older than this. The most important thing is mindset; we probably all thing we are a little younger than we are, however we are still definitely not an 18-30's type vibe. Think of Adventure Solos events as a 'glass of wine with dinner' mindset rather than a 'drink to get drunk and party' mindset!
Group sizes will vary, but to give you an idea of typical group sizes:
Day Events
- Typically we will have around 8 guests (5-12) on a Day Event.
Weekend Events
- Typically we will have around 15 guests (10-20) on a Weekend Event
Expedition Events
- Typically we will have around 4 guests (2-6) on an Expedition Event.
The above is provided for guidance only. There are always exceptions to these - for example there are factors such as late cancellations that can impact group size.
Our events are set up for people to book on by themselves. This is an important part of the dynamic of our events. If you wish to attend with a friend / partner, please get in touch.
You shouldn't need to be mega-fit to attend an Adventure Solos event. Activities are normally selected to be fun group experiences rather than to test you to your physical limits! Events are generally beginner-friendly also - most people will not have done the activity before.
For example, if you're of average fitness for someone in their 30s, 40s or 50s and you've worried about canoeing because you've not paddled a canoe before; don't be! Most others guests won't have either and you can't be left behind as you're literally in the same boat!
If you're worried because you've never walked more than 2 miles before and you want to sign up for a 25 mile hill-walking challenge, it would be sensible to work on this before hand so that you're confident that you'll be up for the challenge. If you're unsure, please get in touch and we can discuss it with you.
You do not normally need prior experience or an activity before doing it; generally everyone else will also be participating for the first time also and we will have a professional instructor showing you the ropes and to guide you through.
As a rule, any specialist equipment required for an activity will be provided. You will generally need to bring sensible clothing and footwear for your event. For example:
If you're canoeing, a canoe, paddles, flotation jacket and helmet will be provided;
If you're hiking in winter, you would be advised to bring sensible footwear such as walking boots, waterproofs, and layered clothing.
If you are unsure about what you will need with you or what to bring, please get in touch, we're here to help.
Most of our events are during warmer months, however we run events all year around. Check out our Adventure Calendar for upcoming events and/or Day Hikes run most of the year. You can subscribe to our mailing list at the bottom of this page for news of new events and offers.
We love our pets as much as you do. Unfortunately, pets and adventures are not a good mix for us for various practical reasons. I'm sure you can imagine how much work and effort goes into managing and co-ordinating up to 20+ adults for events, and looking after their safety on activities, without adding their pets into the mix as well.
For example:
- finding accommodation that accepts dogs would be very limiting;
- finding adequate space in canoes for dogs, or places for dogs to stay whilst we were doing activities, would be very limiting;
- not all guests feel comfortable around dogs, and some may have allergies;
- it is not possible for us to verify which dogs are well behaved at all times - for example, around other people or livestock, or if other dogs will behave well around your dog;
- we are not risk assessed and insured for people to bring pets.
For these reasons, unfortunately we cannot accept pets onto any of our events.
