DESCRIPTION
Lud's Church has a 'wow-factor'.
​
It is a gorge or chasm in the surrounding rock and is approximately 20m deep and 100m long. It has steep, moss-covered sides, giving it a mysterious or mystical feel. It seems a little other-worldly; like you've stepped into a Lord of the Rings landscape.
​​
After Lud's Church, we continue our hike up onto The Roaches - a wide ridge (a bit like Mam Tor if you've been on that hike with us) with views of the countryside below.
​​
The highest point on this route is 505m, from a starting point of just under 300m, so the ascent is relatively gentle. The route we will follow is 10 miles (16km) and takes around 6 hours. The ridge is a nice wide path, making it suitable for those with a fear of heights.
We walk at a steady pace for this hike, but you should have a moderate to good level of fitness to allow you to complete the walk.
The event starts and ends at the car park in Gradback, SK17 0SU (or the farmer's nearby overflow car park if that's full). There's an option to join for a chat and drink at a pub at the end of the walk.
